With the New Year, every one is busy setting goals, focusing on making some major things happen this year and motivated to work hard. These are all key elements to success, but one element so often overlooked is the Time to Play.

As children, we looked forward to our friends knocking at the door asking if we could “come out and play”. It was a huge element to our growth and development. But as adults, we tend to see play as a time wasting activity. Sometimes, we confuse competition with playing. Golf for example is a great sport and personally something I have spent a great deal of time doing. But even golf can sometimes simply be a Business Endeavor, with the component of networking and business activities thrown into the game. Read More→

Here we are starting a New Year. Everyone seems to be setting resolutions and hoping for a better year than 2009. Unfortunately, they are setting the same resolutions as last year (and years before) and the chances of them being anything more than a fleeting memory by January 15 are very slim.

Here is a newsflash for you, New Years resolutions rarely work and rarely make any difference in your life at all. A resolution is only an attempt to achieve something different than you currently have. It is a temporary agreement with yourself. Resolutions rarely include any thought, decision, action or commitment to take you to your goals. What they are not, is decisions.

Why is it, that so many people fail to achieve any goals they set for themselves? Shortly after making a resolution, they can hardly tell you what the resolution was. Could it be they are confused and don’t know what to do to move forward? Or, could it be they simply are not sure what they want? Or maybe, they are afraid they will actually achieve a goal or maybe even they realize to achieve it might require some work. Regardless, resolutions do not work.

In order to experience new levels of achievement, you must be able to understand the possibilities of experiencing something new in your life. You must be able to see yourself having attained the goal. Only when you can actually see yourself where you want to be, can you begin to understand the possibility of getting there.

“It takes someone with a vision of the possibilities to attain new levels of experience. Someone with the courage to live his dreams.” – Les Brown

Truly a remarkable and insightful quote. Les Brown has in two simple sentences “nailed” the primary reasons most people do not stick with New Years Resolutions and fail to make major changes in their Business and Personal lives.

The achievement of a goal is not a material thing you can simply acquire, not something someone else will bestow on you and it is definitely not magical. It is your own vision of what you want, it is making a decision to achieve a goal. The only way to achieve anything in life is by making a decision to do so.

Understand the difference here. When you make a decision, which means removing all other options from the table, you are then ready to make the commitment, take the action and achieve the goal. This level of decision is based on your own recognition of the possibilities in your life.

In order to have any level of success at anything, you must first of all KNOW exactly where you are going. You must have a clear and definite VISION of what your success will look like. This Knowing creates an energy to take you to your goals.

The other component is the courage to live your dreams. Having something you do not currently have, regardless of what it is… money freedom, time freedom, sports, relationships or anything else which might get us excited, requires immense courage.

What you want can easily be yours, but you must have the courage to step out of your box and claim it. “To have something you have never had, you must do something you have never done”. Choose to have vision and courage in every area of your life.

Make the decision today to make the changes you desperately desire. Make the plans, take the action, believe in your own abilities and have the courage to make it happen.

Only then, will 2010 be an awesome year for you.

To Your Unstoppable Success…

Washington Irving said; “Great minds have purposes; others have wishes.”

Each of us have tremendous potential residing within us. Some find the potential and nurture it, others find it but let it go, others never find it and still others never even look for it.

But regardless of who we are, what our circumstances are or the life we have lived, the potential is there for us all. I believe the underlying difference in the manifestation of huge successes and the lack of success, is that some people attach purpose to their potential and create amazing results while others live life haphazardly, never finding a purpose for their intentions.

When you live life with a purpose, you are adding rocket fuel to every goal, every intention and and every desire you can imagine. Your life becomes focused and on track. Your thoughts, your actions, beliefs, decisions all reflect the purpose you have attached to your life.

But some people never establish their purpose. They can not “find” anything to get them hugely excited and something to give them the motivation to succeed.

Too often, I am reminded how hard it is for some people to find their purpose. They believe it should be something grand and world serving. But a true purpose is something designed to simply leave the world in a better place than it would have been without you.

For example, I will share my true purpose with you

“To demonstrate to everyone I encounter the Best Possible Version of Me”. Now that may seem very convoluted and vague, but I feel it is very powerful. There was a time when I wanted to save the world and help thousands of people to change their lives. This is still a very important goal of mine. But by demonstrating the Best Possible Version of Me to the World, to everyone I encounter, I am being a leader who can make a difference.

It puts ME in a position to lead by example. How can I possibly help people if I can not demonstrate the possibilities in and through my own example?

Purpose simply puts your train of life on a solid track. It gives you something to work toward, something you will accomplish through who you are and who you are being. It is not necessary to have a grand and elaborate purpose, especially if you can not see yourself actually in the vision of the purpose itself.

So seek a purpose for yourself that YOU can grow with. Something in life to drive you and motivate you, something you can very excited about. Once you can bring purpose into your everyday life, your goals, your actions and decisions, your life will suddenly change.

The rocket fuel of purpose can take you anywhere you choose to go in life.

Funny how the greatest accomplishments and insight sometimes come from very small, very obscure happenings around us. Personal burdens can frequently plague us, pull us down or hold us back. However, they can be quickly eliminated when we are open to allow them to and open to receiving the inspiration for change.

Moving beyond our personal best, to a higher level, requires a deeper and greater inspiration than ever before experienced. Those inspirations can be very small things, or sometimes, from the people around us who, by their own example, live their lives, unknowingly at a level of excellence few people ever truly experience.

Sadly, the core of human nature is to become a victim of the life we are handed. It would be very easy for me to drift into victimhood. After all, I did lose my husband and the world around me would prefer that I function as the “poor widow”, which I am totally unwilling to accept. I could never honor the excellence my late husband portrayed by allowing his death to push me into mediocrity rather than moving me forward toward personal excellence.

I see the world we live in as a tightrope. Often when we are walking on this tightrope, we literally are teetering between mediocrity and excellence with no medium ground between. Amazingly, the excellence frequently just takes a little inspiration, a little action and of course a little determination.

The inspiration to move to the right side of this tightrope is probably in front of you. Maybe through a book you’ve been planning to read, a person you know, or even a new casual acquaintance, inspiring you through their own zeal and energy for life.

Moving to the right side of the tightrope takes very little action. It does require belief, faith and commitment. But, the first thing it takes is the decision.

I truly believe if I can pull myself to the right side of the line, anyone can. Anyone can live in excellence if they are just willing to take a step in that direction and make a decision to give up the life of mediocrity.

This is a very fine line and a small step reaps huge results in our lives.

Isn’t it time to move to the right side of the tightrope and live the life you truly deserve?

All great accomplishments in history began with the imagination. The imagination is the single most powerful tool we have in our mental and physical arsenals. Nothing is by circumstance, you accomplish what you actively and creatively see in your mind’s eye first.

People often ask me what the most important thing they can do to assure they reach their goals is, and I ALWAYS answer “just Imagine it”. Call it visualization or imagination, it is all the same. But nothing great ever happened without it first being seen in the imagination.

So how do you use your imagination to create something phenomenal? And yes, anyone can do great and phenomenal things. It may be in sports, finances, art, or in relationships, but until it is imagined, it is never accomplished.

Here is a simple 5 step process to use. Take out pen and paper and go through these simple steps:

1) Ask yourself; “What do I really want to do?”
Write the question down and think about it in detail. Do not think about what you have done in the past. The past has nothing to do with your future. What do you really want to do?

2) Assign a time line
Once again, do not think of the past, and especially, do not think about the “How”. Think only about what you really want and when you want it. It should be within 1, 3 or 5 years, or may even be as early as next month, but make sure you put a time line to it.

3) Write a detailed description of doing this thing.
Spend some time using your imagination and write out what you want. But here is the “key”, it must be in present tense. I have or I am are necessary. Be very specific. Use your imagination and create every bit of detail surrounding your desire. I like to refer to it as “my perfect day”, with this “thing” being the centerpiece of your perfect day.

4) Why do you want it?
Get clear on this. You must have a powerful why. Sometimes, you will find in this step that you really do not want the thing you have imagined and something else comes up as more important. If this happens, start from the beginning again.

5) Apply the power of Gratitude.
Beginning immediately, everyday until your goal is achieved, be grateful for it. Spend some time each day being grateful for everything you currently have and for the goal you are working toward. Your gratitude must be in present tense. I am so happy and grateful now that I …….

This may seem to be a very simplistic approach, but it is a very powerful one. Anything your imagination can see, you can achieve. But the achievement of things comes through faith and belief. Believe that your intention is yours. The fact that you have put time and emotion into creating your intent, makes it a very powerful force. So just believe. When you can believe, you can and will receive.

Personal Development is a life changing journey, not a destination but a journey of creating your life to fit your design. It is a journey that is completely within your power to control.

Too often, people think they are working on themselves because they are broken and need to be repaired. This is in no way true. You are who you are and where you are because it is where you should be right now. It may not be where you choose to be, but where you are is directly related to your current and past thinking, who you are inside and the choices you have made. It in no way reflects on the future and where you can be 1 year, 5 years or 20 years from now, it is simply the past.

This is the challenge we face. Instead of giving energy and effort in fixing ourselves, we should focus on molding or creating ourselves to be exactly what we really want to be. We must have a solid vision of what we are creating and go about the process of creating it.

In order to do this, we must have a solid Personal Development regimen to guide us so we can get the most out of our development. The universe likes speed and once the alignment of your desires, your goals and your actions are in alignment, things can happen very quickly.

Here are a few steps you can take to get the most out of your development:

1) Have crystal clear goals – know exactly what you want. The more specific the better.

2) Write out your goals everyday – Spend time first thing every morning to set your goals into your subconscious mind. Write them out…

3) Visualize your goals. See yourself in possession of whatever it is you are working toward.

4) Read good books, books that will help you get what you want.

5) Practice diligence. As I tell people I coach in my business, “the only way you can fail is to quit”.

If you want something badly enough, it is worth commiting to yourself the diligence necessary to have it.

Draw yourself a clear map of the journey you are on. Develop a daily plan of operation and stick to your plan.

If you do not have the level of commitment to accomplish your goal, then possibly you are working toward the wrong goal. Spend quiet time every day to meditate on your goals and make sure the goals you are working toward are what you truly want.

Although I am not an advocate of TV, the Media and any other venue for telling me how to think and feel, there is something very powerful going on in the Media today.

“They” are telling us the economy is bad, times are tough, people are suffering and etc, etc, etc. And, although this may be the truth for some in our country, it does not have to be the truth for us.

When we hear these things, although I firmly believe we are better off not listening to it, it is entirely up to us to determine if these points of view will affect our results and therefore our lives.

Do not allow others, regardless of who they are and what they say they know, determine your future and your results. You are only becoming a slave to thier beliefs, albeit false, if you allow this to happen.

Let’s look at this quote from U.S. Andersen. I hope you will agree with me this is a powerful awareness and something that is life changing.

“It is an established fact that a half dozen people can stand on a street corner and each see things that are imperceptible to the others because of the different qualities of their consciousness. One person might be a realtor and be primarily concerned with the value of a vacant lot. Another might be a doctor and be preoccupied with the erratic gate of a pedestrian. Another might be an advertising person with their attention focused on a vacant billboard atop the drugstore. Still another might be an old lady concerned with the speed of the traffic. There might be an automobile salesman whose attention is riveted upon the new model of a competitor. There might be a contractor who observes that the drugstore needs painting.

Such a list is endless. Because of the infinite variety of the human species, it would surely be impossible for any two people out of any number of combinations to see exactly the same things on the same street corner. What we see is the result of our consciousness. We see only that which we are.

There is no liberation from this fact. It is the basic law of existence. It can be used to restrict consciousness or it can be used to expand consciousness, but work it must, and always. By using it, and we cannot help using it, we either shrivel our souls or expand them, there is no in-between. We are cursed or blessed from within, and upon the judgment seat sits our ego, a false judge to be sure, an illusion to begin with.

When we subordinate ego to spirit, then we are able to expand consciousness and increase awareness, to fully use the law of growth and power. But as long as the ego remains king, that long will we be slaves to a tyrant which imprisons our consciousness within narrow boundaries.”

You determine your life and your destiny, no one else. Your truth is the truth that you see. Others can not tell you how things are, they can only give you their perspective, which is the truth for them. Your truth is up to you to decide.

So decide today what your economy is, what your results are and what your future will be. Never let others, who have limited thinking, control your thoughts.

To Your Success…

I was absolutely shocked at this article in CNN Money, published a while back, explaining how to become a millionaire. The article talks about how to put yourself in a position to be a millionaire within 30 years! http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/moneymag/ontrack_millionaire/index.html

This is the mentality of our Corporate Leaders and Colleges today. Our young people are not being taught how to achieve success while they are still young. It is a fact the majority of Self Made Millionaires in North America, became Millionaires in less than 5 years.

The truth is, our society is misleading people into believing that financial success can only come to an elite few, or those who are willing to save forever, while the corporate gurus are making millions themselves. Maybe we should look at the fact that corporate leaders do not want you to succeed, they want you to remain an employee, therefore having an employee or need mentality. And as for professors, how many millionaire professors do you know? They do not teach success strategies or the economics of making money, and they certainly are not financial success stories themselves as a rule. I do believe that education is extremely important today, I do not however believe higher education is an absolute necessity to succeed financially. The best way to learn how to make money is to learn from those making money.

This is exactly why Network Marketing creates so many millionaires. Successful people are teaching others how to have the same level of success. It’s all about learning to work smart, not necessarily hard. It is very important to live your life while you are making your million.

The old saying “you are the company you keep” is so true. To make a million dollars, start associating with people who have made a million dollars. Successful people are so, because they are willing to share and assist others in the same or greater level of success.

If you are shooting for a higher level of success, first of all, take a look at who you are spending your life with. Are they providing you the empowerment to get to where you wish to be? Be sure to bring powerful people and mentors into your closest circle of acquaintances.

Another important step is to fill your mind with empowering information. Read biographies and the works of powerful and successful people. Turn the TV off and be very focused on what you put into your mind.

These simple actions will get you closer to becoming a millionaire faster than any other action. Sure, you should save and invest, but never count on saving a million dollars, decide to make a million first.
